Qualifications
Nutritionist
I obtained my Dip.ION at the prestigious London Institute For Optimum Nutrition studying on their three year "Nutrition Consultants Diploma Course". The Institute was founded in 1984 by Patrick Holford, one of the world's leading authorities on new approaches to health and nutrition. I am proud to have numbered Patrick amongst my lecturers.
However, I quickly realised that although clients typically left a consultation enthused by their new-found knowledge, very few of them actually followed through on what they had learned. This is usually because the stress and distractions of 'real life' get in the way.
Other therapists agreed - apparently, left to themselves, only 14-20% of people change their behaviour in response to information gained. The College of Nutrition Education and Lifestyle Management (CNELM) recognises this and their degree program teaches coaching techniques to help clients get the most from their consultation.
Life-Coach
My first coaching qualification, obtained at CNELM, was the INLPTA Coaching Diploma. NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) has been described by one of its co-founders as "an attitude of mind leaving behind it a trail of techniques". INLPTA (International NLP Trainers Association) is an international association of aligned NLP Trainers and Master Trainers who have agreed to abide by and uphold INLPTA's standards of quality, professionalism and ethics in their NLP accreditation trainings.
Later, wishing to look at broader areas of coaching than nutrition, I took a further, longer course, at 'The Coaching Academy', accredited by The Surrey Region Open College Network. The Coaching Academy sponsored the development of National Occupational Standards in coaching - the first initiative to set coaching standards in the UK. The Observer recently named The Coaching Academy as "The number one training programme in Britain and the UK's biggest coach school". I am proud to have passed their advanced course with Distinction.
